USA:Designers from Haiti & Africa to support global causes

Nolcha will kick-off Fashion Week this year with a special mission-driven cause, by featuring Haiti-native Catherine Charlot of Himane. Charlot will showcase her collection, made from recycled goods such as broken umbrellas, and donate all of the proceeds to aid family and friends in Haiti. This year's event also marks the debut of 'Nolcha Cares' a 13-piece women's wear collection in collaboration with Care for Kenya.

Five independent designers (Carlotta Gherzi for Sado, Jess Rizzuti, Anavaa Kisasa, Siboney Swimwear and Anastastia Chatzka), selected by Nolcha, worked with Kenyan-inspired themes to create sketches for the one-of-a-kind collection made completely from Kenyan textiles compiled by Care for Kenya.

"These types of collaborations offers the fashion industry the opportunity to harness the power of both business and consumer outreach to support those with greatest need in places like Haiti and Kenya," said Kerry Bannigan, Nolcha CEO.

This is just one of many hands-on projects Care for Kenya has started since it was founded this past year with the mission of empowering women to become leaders in their communities. Care for Kenya is a non-profit organization that works to educate local communities by providing promotional support, legal advice, accounting, research, web design and general consulting services to underserved communities.

Nolcha's commitment to merging fashion with philanthropy continues with the announcement of the Donate a Design to Heal Africa to help develop fair trade cooperatives in the Democratic Republic of Congo in conjunction with Bel Esprit Showroom. The launch of the Donate Design project on February 11 will open a global t-shirt contest, "for those who dream of a beautiful world." The winning designs will be announced at a gala fundraiser later this year and will be produced for sale to benefit HEAL Africa's training program.

Denmark:Terminal-2 gets its own trend show

In line with the work and vision to brand and promote CPH Vision and Terminal-2 separately comes the decision to introduce a completely new set-up for Copenhagen Fashion Fairs. As CopenhagenFashion Fairs only launched Terminal-2 a year ago, it seemed natural to keep the new fair under the wing of CPH Vision. But inless than one year the success of Terminal-2 has surpassed all expectation and has managed to stand on its own feet and gain recognition in Denmark and internationally.

"We felt a need to split the show into two separate events. Showcasing designers from both CPH Vision and Terminal-2 under the name of CPH Vision Press Show was somehow misleading and we simply felt that Terminal-2 deserved a show of its own. The fairshave two completely different identities and a sharpdifferentiation of the two segments was definitely needed."Jesper Emil - Show & Event Manager - Copenhagen Fashion Fairs

The Terminal-2 debut show takes place on Thursday 11 February at 10 am and the venue is the fair itself.

"I'm happy to be on board and as we present the trends for AW/2010, ambitions are set high. We're looking to do something out of the ordinary, to create an alternative that might not be what you expect of a traditional catwalk show. But as always,it'sall about the teamwork and about attention to detail in everything from the styling to the models and the atmosphere. Styling a trade show is definitely a much greater challenge, but at the same time you're presented with endless possibilities as your range is broader and you are not limited to one collection only." Simon Rasmussen, stylist.

Anne Stockmann has worked as a stylist for many years and was previously fashion director at Costume, one of Denmark's largest fashion magazines. Anne now commutes between Copenhagen and New York where she freelances for various Danish and international fashion houses and publications.

For A/W 2010 Anne suggests a minimalistic look with classical and useful pieces spiced up with cocoon silhouettes, volumes, prints and fur.
