India:NIFT Gandhinagar gets new facilities

 


National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) , Gandhinagar marked yesterday as a dateline into history with the inauguration of new facilities like on-Campus Girls Hostel, an Auditorium, Guest Staying Facility, Students Mess along with foundation laying of the Student Activity Centre and vertical expansion of the main building.

Union Minister of Textiles Dayanidhi Maran, Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi and the former Deputy Prime Minister of India and Member of Parliament from Gandhinagar constituency Lal Krishna Advani graced the occasion.

Among the highlights of the programme was the certificates distribution ceremony among thirty tribal girls who successfully completed the training programme on вЂHigh Skill Training on Garment Stitching’ initiated and sponsored by the Government of Gujarat under its вЂVanvandhu Kalyan Yojana’ and being implemented by NIFT, Gandhinagar.

The objective of this programme is to empower tribal women through skill training and employment, and this was the third batch passing out from NIFT, Gandhinagar.

Another notable feature of the evening was the handing over of the вЂGeographical Indication Registration Certificate for Tangaliya’ to Shri Jahanbhai Rathore, the President of Tangaliya Hastkala Association - an organization of Tangaliya weavers initiated and registered by NIFT.

Tangaliya is one of the unique and distinct crafts of Surendrangar District of Gujarat for which NIFT, Gandhinagar made a concerted effort through the SGSY special project to revive this indigenous, exquisite treasure of the State and got it protected through the Geographical Indications Protections Registration Act 1999, of India.

Adding another feather to its cap NIFT also initiated and helped the artisans in getting Silk Mark, and Craft Mark for the handicraft products of Surendranagar District. It was thus a red letter day for Surendranagar Vunkar Samaj (SUVAS), a registered organization initiated and formed by NIFT, Gandhinagar. The dignitaries also launched the Website of an artisan’s federation, SUVAS , dedicating it for the cause of the artisans of Surendranagar.

Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran acknowledged the all round rapid progress made by NIFT and announced the opening of five new centres at Jodhpur, Patna, Bhuvaneshwar, Mohali, and Coimbatore. He thanked the Gujarat Government for offering complete support and cooperation in the form of land and other support facilities.

A highlight of various consulting projects was also on display along with the products developed under different projects implemented by NIFT, Gandhinagar during last few years.

The 200-bed Girls Hostel with two wings named after the perennial rivers of Gujarat – Narmada and Tapti having all in-house facilities like Common-rooms, TV room and Indoor Games etc are available for the boarders. A threestorey Students’ Mess named вЂFuel Station’; a fully equipped five room Guest Staying facility named вЂGulmohar’; a 339 seating capacity Auditorium вЂTANARIRI’ - named after the two legendary singer sisters вЂTana’ and вЂRiri’ from North Gujarat, who were contemporary of Tansen were inaugurated by the dignitaries.
